My sweet 4 year old pup, “Oliver” loves to get comfy on my couch, he especially loves the top cushion on the right side. I would fluff and re-stuff that cushion, but he just kept breaking it down until my couch was so lopsided, that I had to get a new one. Needless to say the new couch is not as comfortable for him and I had to find a solution to keep him comfy. I was looking for dog couches and beds that would look nice in the living room, but WOW those beds are really expensive, upwards of $200 to $300! Not to mention I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t too bulky or too small or the wrong color. I wanted something that was easy to wash and would look like it belonged in my little vintage house.
So this is what I came up with. I purchased a vintage baby doll crib from a local antique store for $20. cut off the rocking part and the side rails, added support in the middle and reupholstered the pad. Purchased a pet carrier bolster pad that acts like a comfy mattress and a cute furry blanket for him. It was pretty simple, and under $40 for the entire project. Best part is; he absolutely loves it! And he could care less about jumping on our new couch. Win, Win!

You can find vintage doll cribs and beds easily at local antique or second hand stores. I also found some on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. I considered using an old wooden wine crate that in my area (close to Napa) is easily available. Use your imagination to find the perfect bed that you can customize to your pup. Even a baby’s crib or bassinette for a larger dog would work well. If you make one please feel free to comment and leave a picture of your creation. Thanks for following my blog.
