    Christmas Painted Mirror

    October 26, 2025 / No Comments

A family tradition        Christmas is absolutely my favorite holiday! The weeks leading up to the celebration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ is full of decorating, cooking, shopping, planning and  fond memories.  Some families drive into the forest to cut down their own Christmas tree, and make an evening out of decorating the tree together , other families might go see The Nutcracker, or go caroling.  Our family has a tradition that I don’t think I have seen anyone else do. It is the much anticipated giant painted mirror in my Mom’s living room.  My parents built their home in the 1970’s, and it has…

New Year’s Day Black Eyed Peas

    January 2, 2025 / No Comments

What are some of the traditions you grew up with? We have many in my family; like banging pots and pans at midnight, or staying up late and celebrating with loved one.  Some traditions have changed over the years, some have not. Like this old Southern tradition of eating Black Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day.   If you’ve been reading my blog , you know I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, but my mom grew up in Mississippi, and my dad was born in Arkansas.  So needless to say my Southern roots, albeit through my parents and grandparents are alive and well in this California girl. …

    Christmas Doggy Stockings

    December 16, 2024 / No Comments

D.I.Y. adorable, easy to make, personalized doggy stockings! Step by step!      I might be a little obsessed with my dogs, especially because my two children are grown! lol.. The pups don’t seem to mind my attention, as long as it doesn’t involve sweaters or costumes! Since I was a little girl, and got my first dog (Barney) , I have always had one or two dogs, and currently we have 3!  I am definitely  a dog person.  So at Christmas or any other holiday, I have to include them just like anyone else in the family. They get presents, birthday bones, Halloween costumes (which they don’t love, but…

Tricks for Treats Pumpkin Dog Cookies

    October 26, 2021 / No Comments

Treat your pup this Halloween with these healthy dog biscuits, so good my husband ate some. lol I am a dog person, maybe a borderline crazy dog lady! I love my pups and have been blessed with many fur babies over my  lifetime. Pictured above are our current two puppers. Oliver (The Blonde) and my blue eyed Tessie Jean. They bring me so much joy, I just have to bake for them too (after all they are family!).  These treats are an absolute HIT! They love them and beg for them as you can see. Made with a few simple ingredients they keep for weeks in an air tight jar.…

    Hauntingly Beautiful Salem, MA

    October 23, 2021 / No Comments

When you think about Salem, MA. The first thing that might come to mind is the infamous Salem Witch Trials from 1692 to 1693. When mass hysteria polarized Colonial Massachusetts and more than 200 people were accused of Witchcraft or  being a Witch.  Thirty innocent souls were found guilty, 19 ultimately hanged and the rest died in a cold, unforgiving  jail cells awaiting execution.  Moving forward in time, more than 300 years, the wrongs committed in those first years have lingered, and stand as a reminder of a time in history to never be repeated!  This is one thing I love about learning history, is to learn the painful lessons…

    Festive 4th of July Mantel

    June 22, 2021 / No Comments

A few times per year I like to change up the mantel, and the easiest way to do this is during the holidays. The large picture of my two kids when they were so little doesn’t really change, because I haven’t found something I like better. lol. They are a big reason I started decorating for every holiday and every season. I wanted to make it fun for them and now it is fun for me! It can be something simple or very extravagant. I have decorated this mantel for more events than I can count. Holidays, Birthdays, Graduations, Accomplishments.. Whatever the occasion, the center piece of the living room…
